Casa Toro, located in the dramatic seaside landscape of Baja California, is built into a narrow, canyon-like slope—a challenge that the construction embraces by setting itself into the hillside in a cascading series of structures. Terraced platforms and a cantilevered pool create the visual effect of extending the home’s geometry toward the ocean horizon, while the property’s embedding into the rocky terrain functions to protect it from the more uncomfortable elements of nature, like intense heat and wind. Casa Toro also responds to its surroundings by taking color cues from nature; its earth-toned walls enable it to camouflage into desert rock; its glassy teal pool reflects the beauty of the Pacific.
